Linda Ingroia, Joan Reardon and Amanda Hesser pay tribute to M.F.K. Fisher
In a workshop panel hosted by Linda Ingroia, editor of The Art of Eating (John Wiley 5th Edition; February, 2004), an anthology of Mary Frances Kennedy Fisher's most famous works, M.F.K. Fisher biographer Joan Reardon (Poet of the Appetites: The Lives and Loves of M.F.K. Fisher; North Point Press, October, 2004) and New York Times food writer and award-winning author Amanda Hesser (Cooking for Mr. Latte: A Food Lover's Courtship, with Recipes; W.W. Norton, May 2004) explored the work of M.F.K. Fisher, one of the most influential food writers in modern times. With photos spanning Fisher's life, biographer Reardon presented a multi-faceted portrait of the complex writer, covering her relationships with her family, her education, her love life, her food writing career, her sometimes contradictory self-image, and her views on nutrition. Amanda Hesser, winner of the IACP's Cuisineart Award for Best Literary Food Writing and whose writing has been compared to M.F.K. Fisher's, discussed her own approach to food writing and using character in food writing. Reardon and Hesser also compared M.F.K. Fisher's voice with other modern food writing voices.
